For those of you who have yet to see Forbrydelsen, the original Danish production of The Killing, your moment has come!
BBC4 starts repeating the series this Sunday at 10 o’clock. There are five two-hour episodes being shown per week (20 episodes in all), which promises to be a pretty intensive viewing experience, but if you haven’t yet sampled this superlative crime drama, I very much recommend that you do. It’s even quite a tempting prospect for those of us who caught the series the first time round…

An added bonus: Sunday’s showing of The Killing is preceded at 9.00 by a repeat of Timeshift’s Nordic Noir – The Story of Scandinavian Crime Fiction.
For those of you into Italian crime drama, BBC4 is also repeating an Inspector Montalbano two-parter, Excursion to Tindari. It starts tonight, Saturday at 9pm. And there’s another chance to catch Timeshift’s Italian Noir – The Story of Italian Crime, on Tuesday at 11pm. Molto bene!

Oh, gosh, I’m green with envy. I don’t think I can get this in the States. I have cable which gets BBC, but I don’t think this means this station.
I’m not sure about international access to BBC4, alas. The other way we can access BBC programmes is through BBC iplayer on the computer. Again, not sure if you can get this, but might be worth a try.
As the original programme was on danish TV, there may be other (legal of course) ways to get it in the US if BBC4 is not available there as I suspect it isn’t? Maybe some US channel has bought the subtitled version rights?
I still have excursion to tindari, recorded when first shown on UK TV a few xmases ago, with another Montalbano story (not based on a book). I can’t understand why UK TV does not show more of this series, which is/was enormously popular on Italian TV (I think it is quite old now).
I read somewhere the details of series 2 of the (Danish) Killing – maybe on euro Crime. I am looking forward to that one though it is always a bit worrying with TV series as they invariably go downhill as scripts become formulaic, actors leave so have to be written out, etc. With books at least there is an evens chance that the standards will stay high.
I have to confess that I never got on with the Montalbano TV adaptation. I think it has something to do with the lead actor, but haven’t quite worked out what it is. Perhaps I’m allergic to certain forms of Italian machismo.
I’m SO looking forward to the second series of The Killing. I’ve read a couple of comments by Danes to the effect that it’s not quite as good as the first, so am trying to manage my expectations. I doubt that anything could have lived up to the first series in any case, because it was so superb, but as long as they have the same writers and Sarah Lund in place, I think there’s a good chance standards will stay high.
Does anyone know if Jan Meyer will be in series 2 – I quite liked the dynamics of his working relationship with Lund – grudging and supportive.
I don’t want to give the game away here (no spoilers rule), but you do get a strong indication in the later part of the series. I agree with you – there’s a fantastic dynamic between these two very different characters.
So much better than the American version – America makes their programs too slick.
